CHECK OUT HER NEWLY ADDED VIDEO UPDATE: 6/8/14 - Bessie is a very smart, large, Treeing Walker Coonhound. She is about 5 years old and wears her 73 pounds on a show winning physique! When she stretches all four of her legs flat out, she measures 65 inches long! Shes a statuesque, elegant dog, much larger and more gorgeous than she looks in her photos. Everyone comments on her beauty. Her shiny, easy maintenance coat glistens in the sunlight. Her symmetrical (puppy dog) face, butterscotch eyes & big pea-coat button nose will melt your heart. If you know and appreciate hounds as house pets instead of hunting dogs, and you want a VERY good, affectionate, sensitive and smart house dog, PLEASE KEEP READING! Bessie has lived in foster care with us since October 16, xxxx. She has wonderful in-the-house manners and needs a home with people who truly do love close and personal relationships with their dogs; a family who already knows and appreciates the beauty of Hounds would be a GREAT HOME for her and they would ABSOLUTELY LOVE her. Bessie is careful about who she trusts but she has a heart of GOLD and is a very loving dog once she trusts you! Bessie entered our shelter in October xxxx as a starving stray. Since then, shes been overlooked because we have so many hounds and her forever family simply hasnt found her yet. It has been fun to foster her and teach her about life inside a real home. She is a great house dog with excellent house manners! She makes us laugh all the time with her unique expressions. She was house trained from the start and respectful of everything inside our home. Shes a leaner who loves to be touched and cannot seem to get enough affection from those she trusts. She loves to be brushed and fussed over and toweled off after a walk in the rain or romp in the snow. She loves butt rubs too. Shes very food motivated. Her favorite food toy is a red beehive shaped Kong stuffed with grilled chicken, pork chops, or sweet potato. We say take it and she takes it and runs off into the yard to savor it. She loves to propel herself through our soft grass as she does the back-stroke. She can run very fast and often gets the happy zoomies where she cavorts in huge circles around the circumference of our yardand then she rolls and rolls like a crazy happy dog! When we arent outside playing with her, she often invites us to come out. She does this with her Lassie movescoming to the door, looking at us and chatting a little bit, and then turning around and beckoning us with her head as she invites us to follow her. That she likes company so much is the reason we feel she might like another dog in her life. Though content to stay at home in a big yard, Bessie enjoys leashed walks in calm, wooded areas (not on busy streets or near golf courses where she sees and hears golfers hitting balls). She is good on a leash most of the timeunless she sees a squirrel, rabbit, or cat, and then she can pull. An easy-walk-harness would probably fix this. Shes very attentive and has good recall, but we always use a 30 lead for her because we dont trust her nose to not get her in trouble. We never let her walk off leash. Bessie is used to most household noises. She loves to lounge around inside the house and take many naps during the day, but she does keep an eye on us. She worries when she doesnt know where we are, at first, but after a while she takes a nap. We have left her alone many times, free ranging in our home, and she has never done anything wron
